Resources for professionals
This section of the website will be useful for professionals working with people affected by substance misuse. You can search for services that ASCERT provides and you can make referrals online or by downloading a referral form.
There are many opportunities for professional development through our training courses, many of which are available at no cost.
Our resource hub has lots of useful downloadable or online self-help resources that could be used by your clients and also directories fo services that you can use to signpost to for further supports.
Training
We provide a range of training and development opportunities for professionals in relation to alcohol or drugs, safeguarding, suicide prevention and other issues that could be relevant to your role. Many of these are free of charge and available across Northern Ireland. Once you have created an account, you can register on courses through this website and keep track of your learning in your own personal dashboard.

ASCERT launches SMART Recovery Group in Omagh
NI’s leading alcohol and drug charity ASCERT announce their partnership with SMART Recovery to deliver free in person weekly meetings in Omagh for adults seeking support with addictive behaviour starting on Wednesday 7th August 2024.
Taking place weekly every Wednesday morning between 11am and 12.30pm in Omagh Library, these meetings do not require advanced booking and are free to anyone aged 18 and over.
Implementing Trauma Informed Approaches in NI
ASCERT’s Training Manager Colin Robinson and Training Officer Elena Brewer virtually attended Queens University’s research launch earlier this week. Service Finder
If you want to get support for someone you are working with you can use our service finder to see what services we have available in each area.
You will be able to view information on what types of support each service offers and for some services you can make a referral right away, using an online form. If want to discuss a particular case before deciding whether to refer or signpost, just give us a call and we will be happy to talk it through.
In most services, the person that needs help can contact us directly, so you may wish to lift the phone to provide them details about a service and they can contact us online or lift the phone.

Resource Hub
Our resource hub is packed with useful information and tools that will be useful to you.
We have downloadable booklets and self-help resources that you can provide to your clients or signpost them to access themselves from this site.
There are also some online tools they can use such as a drinks calculator, an alcohol self assessment, drinks diary.
We also have a specific section for young people living with alcohol, substance use or mental health issues in their family called Steps to Cope where they can get information and use an online self help programme. There are also practitioner resources here.
