Alcohol and You Celebrated at Civic Awards

Alcohol and You, our innovative and highly acclaimed early intervention programme delivered in the South Eastern Health & Social Care Trust (SEHSCT) received special recognition this week from Councillor Tim Morrow (APNI), Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council.

The 2018 Mayor's Community Awards took place on Thursday 15th March in Lisburn Civic Centre. ​The very special awards ceremony celebrated the fantastic community and voluntary work taking place throughout the Lisburn and Castlereagh area.

Nominated in 4 categories, ASCERT were among the 8 worthy winners, receiving two awards, including the Team Spirit Award which was presented to the Alcohol and You team. The award acknowledged the team as having carried out their duties in a professional, caring and enthusiastic manner, and always striving to deliver the best possible service that meets the needs of those engaging with Alcohol and You in the SEHSCT area.

Speaking after the event, Gary McMichael, ASCERT’s Chief Executive was keen to commend the dedication of the Alcohol and You team, he said: “We are delighted that the Mayor and Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council have recognised our efforts and impact in this most special of ways. I am very proud indeed of the Alcohol and You Team. ASCERT’s workers along with our colleagues in the South Eastern Trust have worked tirelessly to make Alcohol and You an effective community service delivering fantastic outcomes for its clients. Alcohol and You has reached more than 1500 people in this community and with our support 95% of clients reduced their alcohol use.

“All staff within ASCERT are fully committed to delivering the highest possible quality prevention and intervention services. Within Alcohol and You, each and every staff member goes over and beyond to do all they can to bring about positive outcomes, and I am pleased for them that their efforts have been publically acknowledged in this way.”

Mr McMichael himself was also recognised at the event, and was presented on the evening with the Brian McDowell Life Long Commitment Award for more than 25 years’ work in supporting local communities.
