Roe Valley Learning Community Group Launch Exhibition With a Donation to ASCERT

The Roe Valley Learning Community Group (RVLC) were delighted to present ASCERT with £678, proceeds from their charity raffle, at the opening of their exhibition entitled ‘The Impact of Drugs on Lives’ which takes place in Roe Valley Arts & Cultural Centre from 10am on Tuesday 18th September until 1pm on Thursday 11th October.

RVLC consists of local Limavady post primary schools -  Rossmar School, Limavady Grammar School, St Mary’s School, St Patrick’s College, Limavady High School and Gaelcholaiste Dhoire. Two pupils from each school form a joint school council who are responsible for leading local initiatives that are pertinent to the Limavady area.

Corienne Archibald, Vice Principal of Rossmar School and Chair of the RVLC Sub Committee who oversees the Joint School’s Council commented on the council’s 2018 / 2019 community mission: “This year the Joint School’s Council raised concerns about family poverty and the use of drugs in the local community.  To help combat this the council have organised for each participating school to donate food to their local food bank throughout 2018 and decided to put on an exhibition in our local arts and cultural centre entitled ‘The Impact of Drugs on Lives.’  The exhibition will highlight the issue of drug use in their local area and each school will display one exhibition piece from Key Stage 3, 4 & 5, in any medium, showing the impact of drugs on lives."

Corienne continued: “The council further decided to support ASCERT; a charity who work in the local community addressing drug and alcohol issues and highlighting the impact of drugs on lives and the importance of making healthy and informed choices.  To show our appreciation for the work they do, the Joint School’s Council held a charity raffle in June raising £678 which we were delighted to present to them at the opening of our exhibition.”

Jenay Doyle, Fundraising Coordinator for ASCERT thanked the Joint School Council for their support: “We are delighted that the Joint School Council chose to support our charity through their charity raffle. We would very much like to thank everyone involved for raising such a fantastic amount. As a charity we are so appreciative of all the support we receive from the local community which helps us to continue addressing drug and alcohol issues and supporting positive and sustainable change across Northern Ireland. We would once again like to thank the Joint School Council for their support and wish them every success with their exhibition.”
