Connected Families Photography Competition

As part of Northern Ireland Alcohol Awareness Week the South Eastern Trust Drug and Alcohol Connections Service are running a photography competition for families. We want you to show us some of the ways your family stays strong and connected.

Parents want to do the best for their children. Research tells us there are things we can do to protect our children and reduce the risk of them getting involved with risky things like alcohol and other drugs.

We can never guarantee our children will stay safe, but we can do everything we can to reduce the risk. As parents and carers we can only do our best. So how can we stack the odds in favour of strong families and strong children? There are some suggestions about what can help below.

Help children feel connected and part of the family, through:
•    Families doing enjoyable things together,
•    Parents listening to their children
•    Children feeling that they are making a contribution
•    Rituals and family traditions: Something as simple as having a family meal together can be one of those traditions that help young people feel they belong and are part of the family.

Have family rules about things like alcohol: help children know what the rules are by discussing them.

Help children have a positive view of their future.

Connected Families Competition

We are looking for inspiring photographs of families having fun together. Maybe you could show us examples of some of your family traditions or ways you like to spend time together.

To enter the competition simply take an inspiring photograph of your family and tell us in 100 words or less what the photo is about and how it shows your family working together to make each other feel valued and connected. Entries should be sent by email or post clearly marked with your name, address, phone number and the names of each family member. The competition is open to anyone living or working in the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust area. The closing date for entries is by 5pm on Friday 2nd June 2017.

Our favourite family photos will be in with a chance to win one of our exciting prizes to be enjoyed by all the family:
